Béati Foundation · Fund Canada

Béati Fondation is one of 16 asset owners who have pledged $334.9 million through Fund Canada. The initiative brings together Canadian asset owners and asset managers to direct $500 million in investments and grants to underfunded and overlooked leaders and founders by 2030.

We asked Nadia Duguay, Executive Director of Béati Fondation, what motivated the foundation to join the Fund Canada pledge.

“At Béati Fondation, we believe it is time to address the persistent disparities in access to philanthropic and financial capital. The evidence has been clear for years: many leaders and communities continue to face systemic barriers to funding. As a small foundation, we know our impact is not measured only by the size of our assets, but by the choices we make. Joining Fund Canada is a way to align our actions with our values and contribute to a broader movement for a more equitable funding ecosystem.

Fund Canada aligns naturally with our mission to support groups working toward justice, equity, and systemic change across Quebec. Equity is not a standalone initiative for us; it is embedded across our philanthropy and impact investing practices. We have adopted equity targets for our grantmaking and are committed to ensuring that both our capital and our funding decisions contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future.”

Béati's grants in 2026 reflect this commitment.

  • Béati funded Tinakiwin and the Anishnabe Moose Committee's work protecting Anishnabe land and strengthening community resilience, supporting land-based education, community-led research, and youth training guided by Elders.

  • In Lanaudière, Béati supported the Elizabeth Fry Society of Quebec's advocacy for women incarcerated at the Joliette Institution, sustaining legal information and education services that help incarcerated women and gender-diverse people defend their rights and prepare for reintegration.

  • And across the province, Béati backed the Trans Patient Union's expansion of its patient-organizing model, helping trans and non-binary people organize collectively in healthcare settings to advance more accessible and equitable care.

“Canada's future depends on our ability to recognize and invest in the full range of talent, leadership, and innovation that exists across our communities. Diverse leaders are developing solutions rooted in lived experience, community knowledge, and a deep understanding of complex challenges. Investing in them is not only a matter of fairness; it is a catalyst for stronger communities, a more resilient economy, and more sustainable social change.” — Nadia Duguay, Executive Director of Béati Fondation.
