Look up

In 1994, during a massive blackout in Los Angeles, astronomers across the city suddenly reported something unusual: people calling planetariums and emergency centres asking about the “strange shimmering cloud” in the night sky.

It was the Milky Way, visible for the first time to many because the city lights had gone out.

Sometimes it takes a disruption to reveal what was always there.

The past year brought turbulence, economic shifts, policy uncertainty, and global debates, pulling attention in every direction. This disruption has a way of clearing the haze. It is an opportunity for us to sharpen our ability to recognize the talent, leadership, and innovation that have long been present but too often overlooked.

Across the country, new models are emerging from founders who understand their communities, investors rethinking how decisions are made, and organizations building capital pathways grounded in trust and inclusion.

The opportunity now is to look up, widen the lens, and back the brilliance that is already here.
